PM Modi to Release 17th Instalment of PM-KISAN Scheme in Varanasi
Major Boost for Farmers: PM Modi Set to Release PM-KISAN 17th Instalment
In a significant move to bolster the agricultural sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to release the 17th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. The event, taking place in Varanasi, marks one of the Prime Minister's first major engagements after beginning his third term, underscoring the government's continued focus on farmer welfare.
Empowering Farmers Through Direct Support
The PM-KISAN scheme is a cornerstone of the government's efforts to provide financial stability to small and marginal farmers. Under this initiative, eligible landholding farmer families receive an income support of ₹6,000 per year, disbursed in three equal four-monthly instalments of ₹2,000. This upcoming release will transfer more than ₹20,000 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.26 crore beneficiary farmers across the nation through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Varanasi Event Highlights
The choice of Varanasi, the Prime Minister's constituency, for this event is highly symbolic. Beyond the fund disbursement, the ceremony will also feature the granting of certificates to over 30,000 women from self-help groups who have been trained as 'Krishi Sakhis'. This initiative aims to empower women in agriculture, enabling them to support their fellow farmers as skilled para-extension workers. The upcoming instalment release reaffirms the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural community and ensuring their financial well-being.
